Dr. Dornbush's Biography
Constantly pioneering
in his field, Dr. Dornbush is known as the "best dentist"on the North Shore and he is regarded by his community as an authority
in what dentistry has to offer.
For sure, at the time of Dr. Dornbush's
graduation from New York University College of Dentistry in 1975, dentistry
had already witnessed many advances. For example: "Novocain's first
use in medicine by Professor Braun in 1905 was superceded by the discovery
of Lidocaine by two Swedish chemists, Nils Lofgven and Bengt Lundquist
in 1943. In 1838, the first dental drill was hand operated and gear-driven
by John Lewis. The foot or threadle engine was developed by Dr. Morrison
in 1872. The air-turbine handpiece by Dr. Borden in 1957. Vulcanite
dentures were popular when first patented by the Goodyear Company in
1864, until the acrylic (pink plastic) denture bases replaced them in
1940's. Porcelain denture teeth were introduced in the 1800s. In 1907,
Dr. William H. Taggart announced the disappearing wax technique as a
new and accurate method for casting gold inlays.
Zinc Oxyphosphate
Cement used in cementing crowns, inlays, and as a protective base over
nearly exposed pulps came into use in 1880. Porcelain fused to metal
crowns were developed in late 1950's.All porcelain crowns have been
used since 1900, however were generally considered unacceptable strength.
Acrylic Resin was used for anterior fillings in the 1940's but was marked
by microleakage. Bowen added silica filler to produce the first composite
and in 1962 combined his innovation with the acid etch bonding technique.
UV cured composites were developed 1970's and light cured composites
early 1980s."
Bringing advances
in dentistry to his inter-disciplinary practice has been central to
Dr. Dornbush's career.
In 1976, upon completion of the Montefiore Hospital
Internship Program under the directorship of Dr. Norman Treiger and
Dr. Jack Kabcenell, the concepts of Periodontal Prosthesis were becoming
established. Principles of Periodontal Prosthesis brought understanding
to the unique interrelationship between a healthy periodontium and precise
restorations. Dr. Morton Amsterdam at the University of Pennsylvania
is generally recognized as "The Father of Periodontal Prosthesis".
Dr. Gerald Kramer and Dr. Myron Nevins in Boston were founders of the
Institute for Advanced Dental Studies which excelled as a source of
education in Periodontal Prosthesis, a subject only touched upon in
undergraduate dental school curriculums. In 1978, Dr. Dornbush completed
the two year Advanced Graduate Study in Prosthodontics program at the
Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. Dr. P. I. Brånemark
announced at the fall meeting of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontists
in 1983 his landmark work and discoveries making dental implantology
a reality. Since dental Implants offer a permanent fixed solution to
missing teeth, Dr. Dornbush promptly became familiar with the protocols
of restorative implant dentistry. In 1987, Dr. Richard Lazzara and Keith
D. Beaty founded Implant Innovations Inc., based in Palm Beach Gardens,
Florida. Dr. Dornbush served as dental consultant and lecturer for Implant
Innovations during its formative years in the early 1990's. He conducted
a comprehensive hands-on course featuring the clinical application of
dental implants in restorative dentistry both domestically and in Europe.
Dr. Dornbush co-authored scholarly publications on the subject of inter-disciplinary
implant treatment in the "International Journal of Periodontics
and Restorative Dentistry" published by Quintessence Publishing
Company.

Ongoing advances in dentistry are as significant today as they ever
were.
Most recently, Dr. Dornbush has established a profile in his community
for improving his patients' smiles through conservative, non-evasive
cosmetic dental procedures which have a positive impact on their overall
appearance and self-confidence. He has performed "smile makeovers"
which provide the patient a more youthful appearance through the implementation
of procedures such as porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, and bleaching.
In 1997, he became acquainted with the art of cosmetic dentistry at
the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Beginning in September
of that year to the present, Dr. Dornbush became affiliated with Dr.
Rosenthal's Aesthetic Advantage Inc. a unique company dedicated to educating,
motivating and stimulating dental professionals.
No sharing of one's philosophy, experience and expertise in dentistry
would be complete without directing attention to the field of dental
occlusion, function and technology. Dr. Dornbush has immersed himself
in understanding philosophies of occlusion: The Gnathological Approach,
The Pankey-Mann Philosophy and Neuromuscular Occlusion. Dr. Dornbush
innovated "The Gold Occlusal Provisional Restoration" which
provides a most stable occlusal position during the course of treatment.
He gratefully acknowledges his working relationship with the technological
talents of Advanced Dental Technologies and Jurium Dental Studio.
Dr. Dornbush offers valuable educational programs discussing & illustrating
the essentials of aesthetic, cosmetic, restorative and prosthetic dentistry.
With over a 25 year career of clinical experience, continuing education
and teaching, his presentations deliver a wealth of up-to-date knowledge
with a focus upon concepts in aesthetic/cosmetic dentistry as well as
dictums for case selection and "how to" perform dentistry.
His genuine meticulous style coupled with an awareness of ethical and
philosophical concerns provides a comfort level of understanding towards
the on-going advances in aesthetic, inter-disciplinary restorative and
implant dentistry.
Dr. Dornbush enjoys working with patients to find out what they want
and gives it to them.
Whether it be saving their teeth, providing new
support for their teeth with dental implants or achieving the smile
they are looking for, dentistry today has a great deal to offer. Dr.
Dornbush's practice is in Marblehead Massachusetts where he resides
with his wife Susan and three sons, Max 21, Ben 20, Eric 17. |
